Silent Hearts

When complex human or animal life comes to an end, a heart stops beating.

It is a moment that is always tragic - especially when we know that an individual of a a rare species is involved. The heart is an organ that fascinates me. It is far more tha just the organism`s engine and pump. Thanks to its sinus node, it serves as an organ that expresses emotions and moods.

Take, for instance, a stressed hare in flight: its heart - already beating rapidly at 130 to 325 beats per minute - can accelerate to as many as 600 beats per minute.

A series of charcoal-drawings is being created during the summer of 2026. In these works, the hearts als also depicted upside down.
